Ancient Numeral Systems!
Hi! Welcome to my blog. Today Iām going to share the ancient numeral systems that Iāve learnt in school! Attic Greek Babylonian Mayan Roman Egyptian Hindu-Arabic Attic Greek 1 = 5 = 10 = 50 = 100 = 500 = 1,000 = 5,000 = 10,000 = 50,000 = 1 is Ī, like the Roman symbol. 5 is Ī , the first letter of the Greek word ĻĪĪ½ĻĪµ (pronounced pĆ©nte), meaning 5. 10 is Ī, the first letter of the word Ī“ĪĪŗĪ± (dĆ©ka), which - you guessed it - means 10. Now 50 is kinda cool. It's Ī inside of Ī . It's as if it's saying, "This number is 10 Ć 5 = 50." It is the same for 500, 5,000 and 50,000. Going on, H is for į¼ĪŗĪ±ĻĻĪ½ ( ekatĆ³n). 500 is H inside of Ī . X is for ĻĪÆĪ»Ī¹ĪæĪ¹ / ĻĪ¹Ī»Ī¹Ī¬Ļ ( chĆlioi / chiliĆ”s ). 5,000 is X inside of Ī . M is for Ī¼ĻĻĪ¹ĪæĪ½ ( mĆ½rion ). 50,000 is H inside of Ī . They have no symbol for zero. Now, you can do the quiz. Answers are at the bottom. (No peeking!) 1. = ( ) 2. 10,573 = ( ) 3. ...
